The Teal Power 5K Run and 3K Walk returns to Summit Park in Blue Ash on Saturday, Sept. 19, raising money and awareness for ovarian cancer research.
The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Greater Cincinnati (OCAGC) hosts the event at 4335 Glendale Milford Road. The event opens at 8:30 a.m., and races begin at 10 a.m., according to the event's registration page. The event runs through noon.
Participants can choose among four options: a chip-timed 5K run, a 3K charity walk, a virtual 5K or a virtual 3K. Registration is available through the event page linked above.
September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The Sycamore Township Board of Trustees unanimously passed a proclamation on Sept. 1 recognizing the month. The proclamation cited American Cancer Society estimates that more than 21,010 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2026 and approximately 12,450 will die from the disease.
Early diagnosis can push the survival rate as high as 92 percent, according to the proclamation.
Sycamore Township Board Chairman Tom Weidman urged residents to learn the warning signs. "Ovarian Cancer is called the 'Silent Killer' and takes far too many lives each year," Weidman wrote in the Fall 2026 Sycamore Quarterly newsletter, published Aug. 31.
A woman's lifetime risk of developing invasive ovarian cancer is 1 in 71, according to the OCAGC's website. Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecologic cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among American women, the group says.
The Teal Power event has drawn local support in past years. Blue Ash police officers participated in the 2024 race at Summit Park.
Those who cannot attend in person can register for a virtual option or donate through the event's registration page.
