Cincinnati City Council member Seth Walsh plans to take leave Monday, Nov. 9, while awaiting certification of the Ohio treasurer election.
Walsh will resign from council once the result is certified, according to a city statement reported by WLWT on Friday, Nov. 6. His Republican opponent, Jay Edwards, has conceded.
WLWT described the result as a presumptive win and said the race had not been officially called at the time of its report.
Salary and council transition
Any salary Walsh receives during his leave will be donated to Cincinnati’s General Fund, his spokesperson said in a release reported by FOX19.
Walsh and his designated representative have begun looking for a successor to serve the remainder of his council term, FOX19 reported. No successor had been announced in that report.
Council member Meeka Owens also plans to leave after winning a Hamilton County commission seat, according to WLWT. The station reported that she defeated Jonathan Pearson.
The city said the council members would begin identifying successors as part of the transition. The reports reviewed for this article did not provide a date for Walsh’s formal resignation beyond the certification condition.
