Sycamore Township schedules six tax-district meetings Sept. 1

Sycamore Township will hold six back-to-back economic development board meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 1, capped by a public hearing on a proposed income-tax-sharing district with the City of Reading.

The hearing, set for 5 p.m. at the Township Administration Building, 8540 Kenwood Road, is a required step before the township and Reading can finalize a Joint Economic Development District that would levy an income tax on workers and businesses within its boundaries. Under Ohio Revised Code Section 715.72, the two governments cannot adopt the JEDD contract until after a public hearing, according to the township's public legal notice.

The Reading JEDD documents, including the contract, economic development plan, district map and income-tax collection schedule, are available for inspection at Reading City Hall, 1000 Market St., and at the Sycamore Township Fiscal Officer's office at 8540 Kenwood Road during normal business hours.

Montgomery JEDD also on the agenda

The afternoon opens at 3:30 p.m. with the Sycamore Township–City of Montgomery JEDD board meeting, according to the township's posted schedule. That board organized at its Oct. 21, 2025, meeting, when members adopted bylaws, approved a resolution to levy an income tax within the district and elected Township Trustee Tom Weidman as chairman, Trustee Tracy Kellums as vice chairman and Montgomery representative Brian Riblet as secretary/treasurer.

On May 5, the Board of Trustees unanimously passed Resolution 2026-043, creating a dedicated JEDD-Montgomery Fund to receive the township's share of income-tax revenue. The fund is earmarked for infrastructure, economic development, public services and capital improvements.

The remaining meetings fill the gap between the Montgomery and Reading sessions:

3:45 p.m. — Sycamore Township–City of Deer Park JEDD
4:00 p.m. — Northwest JEDZ
4:15 p.m. — Southwest JEDZ
4:30 p.m. — East and Central JEDZ boards

These districts already generate significant revenue. The Northwest JEDZ collected roughly $1.33 million in income-tax revenue in 2025, with 90% going to Sycamore Township and 10% to Deer Park. The Southwest JEDZ distributed about $1.18 million to the township and $131,454 to Amberley Village over the same period.
