The Blue Ash Police Department added an explosives-detection K9 named Kai to its force, the city announced Oct. 14.
Kai is a German Shorthaired Pointer handled by Officer Dustin Moore. The dog will provide added security at public events across the city, according to the department.
The Matt Haverkamp Foundation sponsored Kai with funding from Toyota Motor North America's Cincinnati Region in Blue Ash.
Kai has already made two public appearances. The dog appeared at the department's open house on Sept. 15 at 4343 Cooper Road, which featured K9 demonstrations, law enforcement vehicles, drone displays, police station tours and free food.
Kai then turned up at the Battle of the Badges charity baseball game on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Crosley Field, 11540 Grooms Road. The annual game pits Blue Ash police against firefighters for charity.
At the game, Kai caught the ceremonial first pitch. Dave Stansbury, a retired Toyota employee and Ohio Tactical Officer Association contributor, threw it.
The Blue Ash Police Department also posted about Kai on X, noting the dog's role in public-event security.
