Luke Kuechly, the Evendale native who anchored a St. Xavier state championship defense before becoming one of the NFL's most decorated linebackers, will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 8, in Canton.

Days before that ceremony, a new chapter emerged: The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Kuechly will serve as Netflix's No. 1 NFL game analyst for the 2026 season, calling four games alongside play-by-play voice Noah Eagle.

Kuechly's 2007 St. Xavier Bombers won the Ohio Division I state title at Fawcett Stadium, the venue next door to the Hall of Fame building where he'll receive his gold jacket on Aug. 8.

"That guy has studied more film than days the average fan has lived," St. Xavier head coach Steve Specht told WCPO in a text message Tuesday night. "He'll be phenomenal! Just great!"

From Evendale to Canton

Kuechly, 35, grew up just miles from Montgomery and Blue Ash, played youth football for the Deer Park program and swam for the Evendale Eagles before enrolling at St. Xavier, where his father and grandfather also attended. As a sophomore, he was a little-used reserve who spent hours in Specht's office watching game film on a DVD player.

By his junior season in 2007, Kuechly had 147 tackles and 6.0 sacks. The Bombers went 15-0, allowed just 133 points all season with four shutouts, and blanked their opponent in the state championship game. His older brother John started at offensive lineman on that team.

Over two varsity seasons, Kuechly totaled 277 tackles, seven sacks, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. He graduated in 2009 as a two-time All Greater Catholic League selection.

Hall of Fame company

Kuechly becomes just the third Greater Cincinnati high school football player enshrined in Canton, joining Roger Staubach (Purcell, 1960) and Cris Carter (Middletown, 1984). He enters alongside Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Adam Vinatieri and senior-category inductee Roger Craig.

His NFL resume: the ninth overall pick in the 2012 draft, seven Pro Bowls, five first-team All-Pro selections, 2012 Defensive Rookie of the Year, and 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, making him the youngest winner of that award. He helped Carolina reach Super Bowl 50 and was named to the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team before retiring after the 2019 season.

He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2023.

Netflix debut Sept. 10

Kuechly's first Netflix broadcast will be Thursday, Sept. 10, when the Los Angeles Rams face the San Francisco 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. Netflix holds five NFL games this season: the Australia opener, a Thanksgiving Eve matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 25 (Packers at Rams), a Christmas Day doubleheader, and a Week 18 contest.

Kuechly built his broadcast credentials over the past few years as a radio analyst for the Carolina Panthers alongside Anish Shroff, a podcast co-host with former teammate J.J. Jansen, and a guest on ESPN2's "Monday Night Football Playbook" alt-casts in 2025.

Reflecting on Kuechly's high school days in a July 27 interview with the Panthers' website, Specht said the film obsession that now makes Kuechly a natural broadcaster was visible at St. Xavier from the start: "He was always asking, 'Can we watch film? Do you have time?' It's like, 'Luke, here's a key, take my key to my office, you know how to set up.'"

The enshrinement ceremony is Saturday, Aug. 8, in Canton. Kuechly's Netflix debut follows five weeks later in Melbourne.
