Montgomery Elementary ranks No. 8 in Ohio

Montgomery Elementary School scored 99.31 out of 100 and landed at No. 8 among 1,019 ranked Ohio elementary schools in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best K-8 Schools rankings.

That makes the K-4 school on Montgomery Road the highest-ranked elementary campus in the Sycamore Community Schools district with a statewide rank of No. 8.

Maple Dale Elementary, also in the district, followed at No. 14 with a score of 98.72. Blue Ash Elementary placed No. 39 with a 96.27, and Symmes Elementary came in at No. 178 with an 82.61.

Test scores drive the rankings

U.S. News weights four factors equally at 25% each: math proficiency, math performance, reading proficiency and reading performance. The rankings use 2023-2024 state assessment data. Half of the formula measures raw scores. The other half evaluates results in the context of student demographics, according to U.S. News.

At Montgomery Elementary, 92% of students scored at or above the proficient level in math and 85% in reading. Both figures topped Ohio averages of 53% in math and 59% in reading.

Maple Dale Elementary posted 93% proficiency in both math and reading, the strongest marks among the four Sycamore schools.

Blue Ash Elementary reported 84% math proficiency and 89% reading proficiency. Symmes Elementary posted 82% in math and 78% in reading, both below the district average of 86% in each subject.

The rankings also come as Sycamore Community Schools holds an overall five-star rating on the 2025-2026 Ohio School Report Card, according to a district announcement. That rating places the district in the top 10% of more than 600 public school districts statewide, the district said.
