Drew Robinson, a former Major League Baseball player who survived a suicide attempt in 2020, will speak in Montgomery on Thursday, Oct. 29.

The community presentation, titled "Strength Isn't Always Physical," runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Hotel Rambler Montgomery in the Montgomery Quarter, 7711 Roosa St. The city featured Robinson on the cover of its October 2026 Bulletin and devoted a full page to the event.

Robinson was born and raised in Las Vegas. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers out of high school and spent parts of 12 seasons in professional baseball with the Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants organizations, according to the city's event listing.

On April 16, 2020, days before his 28th birthday, Robinson survived a suicide attempt. Nearly ten months later, he shared his experience publicly. He now works in the San Francisco Giants' Mental Health and Wellness Department, where he champions player mental health initiatives and peer-to-peer support programs.

The city said the presentation is open to parents, educators, coaches, employers and anyone interested in mental health awareness.

Montgomery has hosted similar events before. In October 2023, the city brought filmmaker and suicide prevention advocate Kevin Hines to Good Shepherd Church on Kemper Road for a free presentation, according to a city social media post. The Robinson appearance continues a mental health programming effort the city launched in 2022 under its "Smashing the Stigma" platform.

"We aim to make traditions out of the long-lasting favorite events while introducing new services like the mental health initiative," Mayor Lee Ann Bissmeyer said at a December 2025 swearing-in ceremony for four council members.

That initiative includes an annual Mental Health Fair and a partnership with Care Solace, a service that connects residents to more than 560,000 licensed mental health providers and substance use treatment options. The service is available around the clock at no cost, regardless of insurance. Residents can reach Care Solace at 888-515-7881 or caresolace.com/oh-montgomery.
