Sycamore Township trustees will vote Tuesday, Sept. 15, to declare seven properties nuisances and order their cleanup, according to the meeting agenda posted ahead of the 6 p.m. session.

The properties span the township: 7321 Vinnedge Ct., 8722 Wicklow Ave., 4053 Belfast Ave., 4333 Sycamore Rd., 4456/4458 Kugler Mill Rd., 6330 Kugler Mill Rd. and 7600 Montgomery Rd. Five of the seven are cited for tall vegetation. The Vinnedge Court property is cited for garbage, junk and rubbish, and the Montgomery Road property for tree logs and branches, the draft document packet shows.

Under Ohio Revised Code Section 505.87, property owners and lienholders must receive at least seven days' notice before the township can abate a nuisance. If owners do not remove the violation within that window, the zoning administrator is authorized to have it removed and assess the cost to the property tax bill.

It is the second round of nuisance abatements in two weeks. As we reported Monday, Chairman Tom Weidman, Vice Chairman Tracy Kellums and Trustee Tracy Schwegmann voted unanimously at the Sept. 1 meeting to approve Resolution 2026-063, which targeted seven different addresses including properties on Monroe Avenue, Beryl Avenue and Kemper Knoll Lane.

Trustees will also vote to authorize Maintenance Superintendent Steve Reutelshofer to apply to the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) for state capital improvement or local transportation funds for the Galbraith Road Rehabilitation Project. If approved, Administrator Greg Bickford would execute any resulting contracts. The draft resolution describes the project as a priority need for the community.

Other agenda items include a resolution renewing 2026 street lighting assessments and a proclamation designating October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The fire department's report in the Sept. 15 meeting packet shows 436 fire and EMS incidents in August, requiring 676 unit responses. Lt. Ramsey reported that 14 new part-time firefighters completed orientation on Sept. 10, with the department still reviewing applicants for a fifteenth position.

The Board of Zoning Appeals meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, has been canceled. Monthly brush chipping is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. behind the Township Administration Building at 8540 Kenwood Road.

The next trustee meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. at the same location. Tuesday's meeting will be live-streamed on WatchSycamoreTownship.com.
