Three properties in Sycamore Township face forced cleanup after trustees declared them nuisances on Tuesday, July 21.

Resolution 2026-055, signed by all three trustees, targets 8810 Montgomery Rd. and 7525 Montgomery Rd. for overgrown vegetation and accumulated junk, along with 7190 Euclid Ave., a nearby property cited for tall vegetation. The owners now have seven days from the date they receive formal notice to clear the violations or the township will hire a contractor to do it for them, billing the cost plus administrative fees to their property tax bills.

Township inspectors photographed the properties on Sunday, July 13. At 8810 Montgomery Rd., a small structure was nearly hidden behind extensive overgrowth of grass, trees and debris. The 7190 Euclid Ave. property, a brick building, had vines covering portions of the structure and tall grasses growing through perimeter fencing. At 7525 Montgomery Rd., a two-story brick house sat behind a yard of tall, uncut grass.

The resolution was signed by Chairman Thomas J. Weidman, Vice Chairman Tracy Kellums and Trustee Tracy Schwegmann. Township Fiscal Officer Jonathan T. Deters authenticated and filed the document the same day, and Law Director Lawrence E. Barbiere approved it as to form.

The action falls under Ohio Revised Code Section 505.87, which gives township trustees the authority to declare nuisances and assess abatement costs to property owners. For a first-time determination, the law requires at least seven days' notice before abatement can begin. Repeat violations on the same property within 12 months shorten that window to four days.

This is not the first time the township has used the tool on the Montgomery Road corridor in 2026. A separate property at 7600 Montgomery Rd. was cited for tall vegetation in both Resolution 2026-036 and again in Resolution 2026-051, passed Tuesday, June 16. The township has approved at least seven nuisance abatement resolutions in 2026 through July 21, according to public filings.

The township says most violations are resolved voluntarily after an inspector visit, which occurs within 10 business days of a complaint. When they are not, the township can take the matter to court or declare a nuisance, according to the Planning and Zoning department's website.
