Blue Ash's ice rink at Summit Park opens Saturday, Nov. 14 for its 10th season under the glass canopy, running through Sunday, Jan. 10.
The city announced the return on Oct. 21, noting that setup will begin soon. The rink's operator, Ice Rink Events, has been the city's partner since the program launched a decade ago.
Skaters will notice one change when they arrive. The former Community Room that served as the rink's headquarters and skate rental area is no longer available. Restaurant Alcove has taken over that space, according to Blue Ash City Council minutes from Aug. 13. A heated event tent will stand in as the new point-of-sale and operations area for the season.
The tent swap added roughly $60,000 to the rink's budget. Councilman Capell questioned the expense at the Aug. 13 meeting, saying the ice rink and other city events should be reviewed for their overall value. Parks and Recreation Director Brian Kruse said the additional funding covers the temporary heated tent, propane heaters and fuel. Kruse said staff will explore other options for future seasons.
Council approved the budget amendment 5-1, with Capell casting the lone no vote. Several council members said the rink adds energy to the park during winter months and draws visitors who support nearby businesses.
Separately, council authorized a one-year, $155,500 agreement with Ice Rink Events through Resolution No. 2026-68 on Sept. 10. That contract covers the turnkey rink, cooling system, generator and all setup and teardown services.
Council members also discussed using the planned Picnic Grove area at Summit Park to support future ice rink operations. The city expects to bid that broader park improvement project in January.
Hours, pricing and a schedule of special events for the 2026-27 season have not yet been released. The city's announcement noted more details are coming soon. Residents can check blueash.com/icerink for updates as the Nov. 14 opening approaches.
