The nation's largest indoor shooting range chain runs its operations from a Kenwood Road office with about 75 employees, and its founder says the Blue Ash headquarters isn't going anywhere as the company pushes past 50 stores nationwide.

Range USA CEO Tom Willingham founded the company in 2012 with a single location at Creek and Deerfield Road in Blue Ash, originally branded as Point Blank Range & Gun Shop. Fourteen years later, the retailer operates more than 50 locations across 14 states, with about 75 people at headquarters and 1,400 employees across its stores. The Store Support Center remains at 10870 Kenwood Road.

"Blue Ash was a natural choice," Willingham said in a city business spotlight. "Its central location and strong highway access make it ideal for both retail operations and a corporate support center."

He cited the city's fiscal strength and pro-business governance as factors that convinced him a growing company could thrive here. Willingham had no prior firearms industry experience before launching Range USA. A frustrating first visit to a gun shop and indoor range motivated him to build stores that felt less intimidating to newcomers.

That approach has drawn traffic. In 2024, Range USA welcomed 350,000 first-time shooters, according to a Jan. 9 company announcement of Jimmy McManus's promotion to chief operating officer. Since its founding, more than 10 million customers have used Range USA's ranges and over 300,000 students have completed classes or private lessons.

The company hit a milestone in October 2025 when it opened its 50th store in Chester, Virginia. That 15,000-square-foot location includes 20 shooting lanes and two 20-person classrooms. The Cincinnati Business Courier reported in February that three more stores were planned for 2026 in Nashville, Pittsburgh and Kansas.

Willingham said he plans to open three to five stores per year over the next five years and expand into additional states while scaling the company's e-commerce platform, which lists more than 50,000 products.

The local footprint extends beyond the corporate office. Range USA operates four Cincinnati-area locations, including its original Blue Ash store at 10930 Deerfield Road. Willingham noted that many headquarters employees have moved to Blue Ash after joining the company and use the city's Recreation Center.

On April 30, the National Shooting Sports Foundation awarded Range USA its Five-Star Range Rating, the organization's highest designation. The NSSF praised the chain's consistency across locations and its commitment to education and safety resources.

Willingham said 2025 was Range USA's biggest year. Additional store groundbreakings are expected before the end of 2026, though the company has not announced specific dates beyond the Nashville, Pittsburgh and Kansas locations.
