A 27-year-old man faces a felony charge after Montgomery police say he drove more than 90 mph through the downtown business district in a 25 mph zone.
Kyle Trimpe was arrested near Montgomery's commercial corridor around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, according to arrest reports as first reported by WLWT. Officers allege Trimpe plowed over a roundabout in a 2011 Honda CR-V and failed to follow the traffic circle before reaching speeds above 90 mph heading northbound on Montgomery Road near Mitchell Farm as officers pursued him.
Police radio captured an officer calling in the chase: "It's going to be an SUV, black in color. Speeds 90 northbound Montgomery Road. Passing, uh Mitchell Farm."
The brief pursuit ended when officers pulled Trimpe over. He did not cooperate. An officer radioed for a K9 unit, describing the driver as "non-compliant" in police communications.
Arrest reports say Trimpe smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech and could not walk without stumbling.
Trimpe faces multiple DUI charges and one count of failure to comply with a police officer's order or signal. Under Ohio Revised Code Section 2921.331, fleeing or eluding an officer after receiving a visible or audible signal to stop is a fourth-degree felony. A conviction on that charge carries a mandatory license suspension, and any prison sentence must be served consecutively to other terms.
The stretch of Montgomery Road where the chase occurred runs through one of the city's busiest commercial blocks, lined with restaurants and shops.
