Montgomery's Environmental Advisory Commission outlined three fall recycling and cleanup events at its Tuesday, Sept. 8 meeting, according to the city's meeting agenda.

The commission met at 5 p.m. at Montgomery City Hall, 10101 Montgomery Rd.

A One Stop Drop recycling collection is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A community shredding event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at Forest Hills United Methodist Church. An Adopt A Spot cleanup runs Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a rain date of Oct. 31.

The commission also took up TerraCycle Waste Management options as a new business item. TerraCycle is a New Jersey-based company that helps municipalities recycle materials not accepted by standard curbside pickup. The agenda did not specify which TerraCycle programs the EAC is considering or whether a vote is planned.

Other new business included a communication plan for the city's cardboard recycling hours and early planning for a May 2027 shredding event. Under old business, the commission reviewed August vehicle counts at the cardboard recycling site and discussed the upcoming One Stop Drop.

The EAC has been on an active stretch. Commission member Debbie Erdman wrote in an August city website post that the group had secured grant funding for environmental initiatives, including a solar panel installation at the Weller Park concession stand restroom. The system is projected to deliver a return on investment exceeding 300% over about 10 years and offset roughly 40 tons of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.

Montgomery residents diverted 1,598 tons of material from landfills in 2023, according to city data published in August 2024. That effort conserved enough energy to power every home in Montgomery for 12 days and saved 6,728 trees from being harvested.

Meeting minutes from the Tuesday, Sept. 8 session had not been posted to the city's website as of Wednesday, Sept. 9. The agenda does not list a time or address for the Sept. 26 shredding event beyond the church name. Residents can call (513) 891-2424 for details.

The EAC's next scheduled community event is the One Stop Drop on Sept. 19.
