Property owners in seven Sycamore Township neighborhoods will see street lighting charges on their Hamilton County tax bills.
The Board of Trustees approved Resolution 2026-071 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, renewing special assessments totaling $51,612.71 for the 2026 tax year. The charges cover electricity the township pays Duke Energy to power street lights in each district.
The per-parcel cost varies widely by neighborhood. Sterling Run Farms carries the heaviest load at $400.92 per parcel, accounting for $37,285.56 of the total. At the other end, Happiness Way-Merrymaker property owners owe $4.90 per parcel.

The assessments will be collected by the Hamilton County Auditor in equal semi-annual installments, appearing on property tax bills the same way other levies do. Under Ohio Revised Code Section 515.11, the township passes 100 percent of the lighting cost to property owners in each district. The money goes into a dedicated Lighting District Fund.
No residents objected.
None of the property owners in the seven districts filed a petition to discontinue their street lighting before the vote, as allowed under Ohio Revised Code Section 515.081.
Chairman Thomas J. Weidman, Vice Chairman Tracy Kellums and Trustee Tracy Schwegmann all signed the resolution, which was certified by Fiscal Officer Jonathan T. Deters. Law Director Lawrence Barbiere approved it as to form. The trustees dispensed with a second reading and adopted the resolution on its first reading.
The Sept. 15 meeting was held at the Township Administration Building, 8540 Kenwood Road, where trustees typically meet on the first and third Tuesdays at 6 p.m.
