Sycamore Township residents still clearing branches and yard debris from the July 17–18 storms have a free option this weekend: the township's monthly brush chipping service returns Saturday, August 1, after skipping July entirely.

The drop-off runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Township Administration Building at 8540 Kenwood Road. The service is free. It's open to Sycamore Township residents only.

Why the gap matters

The township skipped its July session because of the Independence Day holiday. Sycamore Township posted on X on June 22 that there would be no brush chipping in July, making Saturday's session the first since June 27, a five-week stretch that coincided with severe storms that downed trees across the area.

Sycamore Township declared a storm damage emergency after the July 17–18 storms and offered free curbside debris pickup for residents who registered by 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 22. The township's storm notice explicitly listed the August 1 brush chipping as an alternative for residents who could not meet that deadline.

Part of a regular program

The brush chipping program runs monthly during the warmer months as one of several free services funded by township property taxes, alongside leaf pickup, snow removal, community trash bash events and document shredding days.

Trustee Tracy Schwegmann wrote in the Summer 2026 Sycamore Quarterly that the township "welcomed back some of the Township's most popular programs – monthly brush chipping, compost give-away, the North & South Trash Bashes and Document Shredding Day" during the spring season.

The township has not published specific guidelines on what types of brush or branch sizes are accepted at the chipping events. Residents with questions can call the Township Administration Building at 513-791-8447 or visit sycamoretownship.org.

What's next

The next brush chipping session after Saturday is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, same location and hours, according to the Summer 2026 Sycamore Quarterly.
