Montgomery is moving forward on a renovation of its 30-year-old Safety Center, with City Council considering a construction management agreement for the project at its Aug. 5 business session.

The resolution would approve a Construction Manager At Risk agreement with Conger Construction Group, Inc. for the Safety Center Renovation/Addition Project. The building, constructed in 1996, houses both the police and fire departments. The city's five-year strategic plan identifies the renovation as a priority, citing the need for more space for police and fire operations.

The agenda packet, posted on the city's website before the 6 p.m. meeting at City Hall, did not include a dollar figure for the Conger Construction contract. The full packet was not accessible online as of Aug. 6.

A rezoning ordinance for lots on Montgomery Road reached its third and final reading Wednesday evening. The measure, sponsored by Vice Mayor Naiman, would convert parcels currently zoned O-Office to D-3 Multi Family. Third reading is typically the final vote. The specific lot addresses were not identified in the publicly available agenda.

New legislation introduced by Council Member Mike Cappel authorized the city manager to contract with Compass Minerals America, Inc. for 2026–2027 deicing rock salt through a joint purchasing bid with Hamilton County. The arrangement lets Montgomery leverage county-level pricing for winter road maintenance supplies.

The session was council's first since a July 15 work session and the first since widespread flooding on July 17 generated roughly 1,500 sewer-backup reports across the city. As we reported July 28, the city manager called the flood response "not good enough yet."

No minutes from the session had been posted as of Thursday. Outcomes are not yet confirmed. Residents who want to follow up can contact Clerk of Council Connie Gaylor at (513) 792-8314.
