Sycamore Township bus riders could lose their direct Route 61 connection to Madeira under one of two proposals Metro released Sept. 25.

The Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority is seeking public comment on changes to the Galbraith Road line, which runs seven days a week between Mt. Airy and Madeira through the Kenwood corridor. The changes would take effect Sunday, Dec. 6, according to Metro's announcement.

Option 1 would reroute Route 61 through Kenwood, Dawson, Miami and Euclid roads. Option 2 would end the route at Kenwood Mall, eliminating all Route 61 service in Madeira. Under that scenario, the Madeira Park & Ride would still be served by Route 2.

Route 61 currently stops at Kenwood Towne Centre in Sycamore Township and the Madeira Park & Ride. It connects communities including Kenwood, Madeira, Deer Park, Amberley Village, Finneytown, Reading and Dillonvale.

Metro spokesperson Bradley Mason authored the announcement but did not include ridership figures or an explanation of what is driving the proposed changes.

How to weigh in

Metro is holding three public meetings before the comment deadline:

  • Thursday, Oct. 1, 5–7 p.m.: Madeira City Council Chambers, 7141 Miami Ave., Madeira (accessible by Route 61)
  • Tuesday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m.–noon: Virtual meeting via Zoom (registration required)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 7, 5–7 p.m.: 3 South Room D, Public Library, 800 Vine St., Cincinnati (accessible by all Metro downtown routes)

All comments must be received by noon Friday, Oct. 9 to be included in Metro's final decision. Residents can also submit feedback online at surveymonkey.com/r/YF3K5NV or by email at [email protected].

The Dec. 6 service update also includes changes to Routes 10, 20, 31, 50 and 51 across the Metro system.

Metro has not announced when it will make a final decision on the proposed changes.
