MadTree Brewing's second Alcove restaurant opens Tuesday, Aug. 11, in the former Brown Dog Cafe space at Summit Park, bringing more than 60 jobs and a revenue-sharing deal that sends money back to Blue Ash Parks and Recreation.
The restaurant, at 1000 Summit Place Suite A, will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week with brunch on weekends. The menu features fresh seasonal food, MadTree's craft beer, its Sway canned vodka cocktail line and hand-crafted cocktails.
Alcove-Summit Park is MadTree's fourth restaurant overall and its second Alcove location, following the original in Over-the-Rhine. It fills the space left when Brown Dog Cafe closed Dec. 19, 2025, after 10 years, with ownership retiring.
"We've received great feedback with MadTree Parks and Rec in Blue Ash, and we can't wait to showcase Alcove-Summit Park for more elevated date nights, celebrations, and memory-making occasions," CEO Rhiannon Hoeweler said in an announcement posted to the Summit Park website on Aug. 4.
Hoeweler became MadTree's first-ever CEO on April 29, having previously served as vice president of experience and impact. The appointment came after a two-year leadership transition that saw MadTree reach its most profitable year since before the pandemic.
Blue Ash City Council approved the lease agreement in early April after months of negotiations between city staff and MadTree. Under the deal, a portion of the restaurant's revenue goes directly to Blue Ash Parks and Recreation to help maintain the 130-acre park. MadTree Parks & Rec, at 4321 Glendale Milford Rd., operates under the same arrangement.
Blue Ash Parks and Recreation Director Brian Kruse called the addition "an exciting addition to Blue Ash" when the partnership was announced in April, saying the restaurant "will welcome all types of people to utilize and enjoy park amenities."
MadTree is Ohio's only B Corp-certified brewery and a 1% for the Planet member, donating one percent of sales across all locations to local environmental nonprofits. Because of that membership, Summit Park benefits from guest spending at every MadTree location.
Reservations are available through OpenTable. The opening marks MadTree's second venue inside Summit Park, giving the brewery a growing footprint in Blue Ash's signature public space.
