Seniors in Blue Ash and surrounding communities can sign up for a free seven-week fall prevention class, starting Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Blue Ash North Fire Station.
The Blue Ash Fire Department is partnering with TriHealth to bring the "Stepping On Fall Prevention" program to the station's Main Training Room at 10647 Kenwood Road. Classes meet every Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. through Oct. 27, according to the city's announcement.
The program is free, funded as a TriHealth community benefit, according to TriHealth's senior classes page.
Each week features a different TriHealth guest expert. A pharmacist covers how medications can contribute to falls. A physical therapist leads balance and strength training exercises. An occupational therapist teaches participants how to eliminate hazards at home and stay safe in the community. A vision specialist explains the role eyesight plays in balance. Other sessions address the importance of vitamin D and calcium in protecting against fall injuries.
Falls are common among older adults: more than one in four people 65 and older falls each year, and falling once doubles the chances of falling again, according to the CDC. About 37% of those who fall report injuries requiring medical treatment or restricted activity.
Stepping On is an evidence-based program originally developed in Australia and later replicated at the University of Wisconsin. U.S. trials showed participants experienced up to a 50% reduction in falls, according to a Healthy NEO program review.
Space is limited. Residents can register online at TriHealth.com/SeniorityClasses or call 513-569-5400.
The Blue Ash Fire Department promoted the series on its X account Wednesday, Aug. 12:
@blueashfiredept: "The seven-week series from TriHealth will focus on strength training, medication hazards, fall-proofing your home and outdoors, nutrition, and more."
TriHealth is also running Stepping On sessions at Good Samaritan Western Ridge on Thursdays and Anderson Township Senior Center on Wednesdays during September and October, making the Blue Ash location one of four regional options for fall 2026.
