A 27-year-old construction worker was struck and killed while working on Interstate 275 near Blue Ash early Friday, Sept. 18.

Joshwa Christopher Holland, of Adams County, was hit by a 2015 Ford Fusion just before 4 a.m. near the 42.6-mile post on I-275 eastbound, close to the SR 747 interchange in Springdale, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Holland had entered the single open lane of traffic when the vehicle struck him, the sheriff's office said.

The stretch of I-275 near mile marker 42 is a commuter artery used daily by Montgomery, Blue Ash and Sycamore Township residents.

Holland worked for Jurgensen Construction. He was transported by ambulance to Bethesda North Hospital, where he died from his injuries, the Springdale Police Department said. Springdale police were the first to respond to the scene, according to FOX19.

The sheriff's office said speed and impairment are not considered factors in the crash. No charges are pending against the driver.

Holland's wife described him to FOX19 as a "wonderful man who was always willing to help those in need."

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit is leading the investigation.

Road closure

I-275 eastbound was shut down near the I-75 interchange for several hours Friday morning while investigators worked the scene, according to WLWT. The highway reopened Friday morning.

During the closure, detours routed drivers along Springfield Pike to Kemper Road, Kemper to Mosteller Road and back to I-275 East. Drivers could also take Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway to I-75.

Kathleen Fuller, a public information officer with the Ohio Department of Transportation, confirmed to WLWT that a crew member for the contractor doing work in the area was involved in the crash. She said she did not have further details. Bridge repair work was planned in the area during the week, though no source has confirmed whether that work is connected to the crash.
